about
I wrote this song for a songwriting challenge. It was recorded with the Green River Distillers (Check out the full album!) as part of a local, Maple Valley holiday album. All local artist original music.
lyrics
The year’s first snow – December dusting
Only sticks around a little while
The wind turns cold without a warning
You start to get excited like a child
Flakes come down as big as silver dollars
A soft, white blanket covers up the morn
Grab your hat and your galoshes
And make the first tracks out across the lawn
January snow, cold and blowing
Snowmen have a picnic in the yard
Sleds and forts and snowball throwing
Skate the ice down at the old mill pond
February lasts just about forever
March comes roaring in just like a lion
The sun comes out and turns the snow to rivers
And gives a little hint of summertime
Spring is just around the corner
Flowers poke up through the frost and grow
Turn around and the leaves are falling
Making room for January snow
